PHUSE Board of Directors – An important update on COVID-19 and beyond
Just like you, we are closely monitoring all global developments regarding the novel coronavirus COVID-19.
The health and safety of our members and our PHUSE Office team are my utmost priority, and we are taking every conceivable measure to ensure that our global network remains a place where you can feel comfortable and secure.
On behalf of the PHUSE Board of Directors, I would like to update you on the decisions we have taken regarding upcoming PHUSE events in light of COVID-19 and the impact this is having on the global PHUSE community.
The PHUSE Board of Directors represents each major world region and a full range of companies including large pharma, small pharma, CROs and independent consultants. This broad constitution, together with our worldwide trusted network, has given us a global insight into what is happening across the regions.
Last week PHUSE took the very difficult decision to cancel the US Connect event in Orlando. However, the support we have received from both delegates and sponsors, in addition to how events have played out in the last seven days, confirms that the right decision was made at the right time.
In this communication, we would like to detail our plans for the next 12 months, as things stand today. The PHUSE Board of Directors will review this regularly in order to update the planning as necessary and check that our recommendations as of today are still valid. One of the strengths of PHUSE is its ability to react quickly and efficiently. The PHUSE Board will continue to monitor the evolving situation and take decisions we believe are in the best interests of PHUSE, the membership and our supporters.
In addition to PHUSE emails, PHUSE App notifications and the PHUSE website, one action we have taken this week is to implement “Crises Control”.
This is an incident response platform should PHUSE ever need to urgently contact any event attendees in the future.
Single Day Events (SDEs)
PHUSE has decided to make all SDEs in the first half of 2020 virtual events. They will still be regionally based, but will be open to all. More details will be circulated via regional SDE mailshots.
Computational Science Symposium 2020 (CSS)
In collaboration with the FDA, we will be postponing the CSS from June until 21st September. It is our current working assumption that travel restrictions will be lifted by the second half of the year and the event will be able to go ahead at this later date. More information will be shared through the Working Groups and directly with the sponsors.
PHUSE EU Connect 2020 – Liverpool
PHUSE is closely monitoring all global developments regarding COVID-19 and we fully anticipate the EU Connect in Liverpool, 8th–11th November, to go ahead as planned. Call for Papers is currently open and registration will open during second quarter. Given the success of previous years, we strongly recommend that prospective presenters complete the Call for Papers process with a positive outlook. Any sponsorship/exhibitor invoices raised for the event will not be due until third quarter – by which time there should be visibility of a return to normality with respect to travel.
PHUSE US Connects 2021 and 2022
Since the cancellation of the 2020 Orlando event, the PHUSE Board and the PHUSE Office have worked tirelessly to examine and evaluate all possible options to determine the best way forward.
We are pleased to announce that the PHUSE US Connect 2021 will be held in Orlando. The event that was going to be held in Atlanta in 2021 has now been rescheduled to 2022. More information will be available on the PHUSE website from April.
PHUSE/FDA Data Science Innovation Challenge
The first Innovation Challenge was due to be held in Orlando last week. Given the excellent response and the enthusiasm shown, we have decided to embrace the energy and progress with a new initiative: Innovation Friday.
Every Friday* there will be a short webinar to allow people to come together and discuss future digital solutions to healthcare problems. You should already have seen an invitation to the first of these events, which are open to all.
*Subject to global public holidays
The PHUSE Board of Directors would like to thank our supporters around the world for their understanding and patience, as we have tried to adapt in this fast-changing environment.
We would like to express particular thanks to everyone who is giving their time to successfully virtualise the content planned for Orlando 2020. With the amazing support we have seen this week, and the fact that a consistent approach is being taken across the industry, we are convinced that not only is this the right thing to do but that it will result in a very successful outcome.
It goes without saying that the health of all our members and our global team is of the utmost importance to us, and we have kept this at the forefront of our approach to the COVID-19 outbreak. If you need any help or support, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the PHUSE Office.
