Stream Descriptions

At the heart of the conference are the 15 streams that give a platform for presenters to share knowledge and exchange ideas.

Section
Description Chair Co-chair
Applications & Software Development AD Applications and Software Development papers focus on the use of software in the development of applications, including those utilising SAS or S-Plus but also Java, Perl and .NET. Presentations in this section cover the application's code and development processes.  Papers can include any "lessons learned" or "suggestions for future development". Raymond Ebben
Steve Griffiths
Coder’s Corner CC The Coder's Corner section is dedicated to brief presentations of real-life code, programming tips, efficiency techniques, undocumented features, useful algorithms and macros and other creative uses of software. Jules van der Zalm
Jeff Vernon
CDISC & Industry Standards CD The CDISC organisation has established standards to support the acquisition, exchange, analysis, submission and archival of clinical data and metadata.  This stream focuses on the
a) Explanation and interpretation of these standards
b) Processes and development of how to implement these data standards
c) The use of the CDISC standards in e-Submissions.
Frans Wald Michael Knoessl
Coding Solutions CS Coding Solutions papers concentrate on validated and documented single scripts or macros; not coding language specific.  Solutions presented will cover different programming needs; complex algorithms, standardization and/or solving recurrent issues. Dominique Pinet
Alistair Dootson

Data Handling DH The Data Handling stream is dedicated to the many aspects of data handling and database management done by programmers in the pharmaceutical industry.  The aspects include for example  management of data and data flow, metadata definition and handling, extraction of raw data from various sources, data validation, data acceptance and data quality issues, data processing from raw to analysis data, data transformation as well as different interfaces to clinical data management systems. Pierre Mayeur
Dimitri Kutsenko
Health Outcomes Research & Epidemiology HE This new stream is dedicated to programming in the field of epidemiology, health economics and health outcomes research.  Typical issues in this field will be covered like handling very large datasets, data selection issues, epidemiological methods assessing patient reported outcome like compliance, quality of life and more. Berber Snoeijer Knut Muller
Industry Starters IS
This stream offers a great opportunity for either new colleagues to the industry to gain experience presenting at conferences or the more experienced to present papers that wold be of interest to colleagues with 3 years or less experience. The focus is to provide a warm welcome to the industry and to ask questions in a more informal atmosphere, whilst offering a diverse range of presentations that would be of interest to all.
John Moone Chris Price
Management MA Management Stream focuses on discussing current challenges and opportunities that are faced by Programming Managers within our industry.  The session will be very interactive with the format comprising of experienced managers introducing a topic and inviting the audience to participate in a discussion to share the collective experience and knowledge. Contribution is by invitation only but the sessions are open to all PhUSE delegates (who may have either a managerial or technical background). Louise Webber Gary Hearfield
Non-Specific NS This stream is in place for those papers that do not fit directly with any of the established conference streams, so that the Conference Chair and Co-Chair can take the decision on where they would be best presented.  The focus is to provide a storage point for the paper until an actual stream has been determined and agreed with the author(s). Jean-Marc Ferran Sascha Ahrweiler
Professional Development & Training PD
The Professional Development and Training sessions cover a wide variety of topics, mainly relating to the non technical aspects of our roles as programmers within the pharmaceutical industry.Previous topics have included training, certification, recruitment, career development, managing teams, project management, and much more. Kathryn Wright Lynn Clipstone
Poster Presentations PP Posters cover a wide variety of topics in a poster board form rather than a formal lecture.  Posters are ideal for presentations that include graphics, source code, statistical concepts or thought-provoking concepts that invite conference participants to review at their own pace.  Posters are on display throughout the conference and authors are available for questions during a designated time.

Regulations in the Healthcare Industry
RG The healthcare industry is surrounded by rules, standards and regulations such as GxP,ICH, 21 CRF Part 11 compliance, validation, version control, process management and continuous improvement processes.   We are also regulated on all aspects of submission related activities including interactions with health authorities (FDA, EMA, MHLW etc), site inspections and audits.  This stream invites you to share your experiences and have open discussions on how best to work in such a highly regulated industry.
Beate Hientzsch
Stephen Harrison
Software Demonstrations SD
This stream focus on demonstrations of new or recently released software and tools. It may include new programming platforms, reporting systems or data management tools, and new innovative applications utilizing a variety of new and established technologies.  Each demonstration has the goal of highlighting the potential for enhanced optimization, increased efficiency or user-friendliness in the day to day undertaking of Biometrics processes and tasks. Rob Horton Heinrich von Lips
Statistics & Pharmacokinetics SP The Statistics and Pharmacokinetics section is designed to allow users to share how they have used any statistical or computing package to resolve statistical issues within the clinical trial field. Martin Gregory
Corinna Miede
Technical Solutions TS Technical Solutions papers concentrate on innovative solutions that enable us to problem solve, analyse and present data and develop systems.  These papers are not limited to SAS and can cover a wide range of technologies and interfaces. Ian Amaranayake John Salkeld
